Every time I write a blog post or get brunch with my friends I feel like Carrie Bradshaw. But is that what I should be aiming for? Should Carrie be an inspiration for women everywhere? Yes, she is career driven and has an amazing girl gang, but she cheated on the good guy and ended up with the guy who doesn't treat her right. Plus she spends all of her money on shoes instead of rent. This left me asking, should we be listening to Carrie Bradshaw?

P.S if you haven't seen Sex and the City be warned, there are spoilers. Also, its on Amazon Prime video so go catch up on pop culture :)

Sometimes after watching Sex and the City I feel like I too am going to be alone at 35. Yes this isn't the worst thing in the world, but it scarres me. As Bradshaw said, "Why are there so many great American women and no great American men?" I feel like my faith in men has decreased since I started watching the show.

I do like that the show shows women that we can be whatever we want to be. Samantha is an amazing example of a women who dosen't care what other people think. She sleeps with whomever she likes and is always her true self. She is powerful, strong, and stands up for what she believes in.

Miranda is an amazing example of a women who works hard for her career. She is driven and hardworking and shows that women can work as equals to men. She also shows the reality of being a working single mother, but handles it all amazingly.

Charlotte is a wonderful role model to women who want to get married and have children. To me, that is one of my drams, but I have felt guilty sometimes. In an age where women are fighting to get equal rights I feel like I should be studying to be a lawyer and never getting married so I can work on empowering women forever, but this is SO not the case. I want to be a teacher and get married and have kids and thats ok. Feminism is about having the choice, and I would like to thank Charolette for helping me realize that.

Now we are left with Carrie. She is a mix of all three of her friends in my eyes. She is carrier driven like Miranda, dosen't care what other people think like Samantha, and is looking for her true love like Charlotte. She is also the glue that holds the group together and acts as a voice of reason many times for her friends.

What I respect most about this girl gang is the fact that they are there for each other no matter what. I like to think that in 2019 they are all still meeting for brunch and helping each other through the ups and downs. They also always stood by each others sides, even when they didn't agree with each other and rarely caused drama in the group. While there were a few fights, for the most part these ladies all understood that they had enough drama in the rest of the world, and their group could be an escape.

So I guess its all in the way you look at the show. Yes Carrie didn't make the best decisions, but thats life. She is very realistic. She values her friends and works hard to keep those relationships. To me, this is very important. I will never forget her saying "Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates, and guys are just the people to have fun with" because it really rang true to me. The love of my life should be one of my best friends, but not my only one. Your girl gang is so important and it is a relationship we need to be working on as well.

Final verdict: yes, we can listen to Carrie Bradshaw. Less with relationship advice (and never for financial advice) but when looking at friendships and how to live a life you love, Carrie is am amazing role model.

xoxo,

Gracie
